KONGENS NYTORV

This historic square encompass the Royal Theater, Hotel D'Angleterre and the entrance to the Nyhavn waterfront and Stroget shopping area. The statue in the middle of the square is of King Christian V who, in the 17th-century expanded Copenhagen, hence the name "King's New Square."

NYHAVN

("New Harbor") is a popular area in Copenhagen, with both locals and tourists. The street is lined with many small bars and restaurants facing out to a picturesque harbor. It is not uncommon to see groups of young people sitting along the waterfront with beer, enjoying the sunshine, the crowds and the street entertainment. It is the starting point for various canal tour excursions, and is located near Kongens Nytorv, at one end of Strøget, and near the start of Langelinie, which leads to Amalienborg Palace.

TIVOLI, Vesterbrogade 3

Tivoli is the world-famous garden and amusement park, located in the heart of Copenhagen. Here you will find a multitude of flowers, an amusement park, many restaurants and both indoor and outdoor music. All of this illuminated by thousands of lamps in different colours. Tivoli is closed however re-opens again 12th April 2009!

LITTLE MERMAID, Langelinie Waterfront

The bronze statue of Hans Christian Andersen's character was made by Edvard Eriksen and sits at the entrance to Copenhagen harbour. The Little Mermaid continues to be the most popular tourist attraction in Denmark and one of the most photographed statues in the world.

ROSENBORG CASTLE, Oster Voldgade

Rosenborg Castle (Rosenborg Slot), located in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark, is a beautiful castle built by Christian IV in the Dutch Renaissance style, distinctive for its many towers and spires. Once a summerhouse and royal residence, the castle today houses the Royal Danish Chronological Collections (De Danske Kongers kronologiske Samlinger), which include the Crown Jewels and the Danish Crown Regalia. The castle and gardens occupy 12.1 hectares, providing a centrally located museum and park enjoyed by millions of visitors every year.

ROYAL COPENHAGEN PORCELAIN FACTORY, Smallegade 47

Porcelain factory reknown for the Flora Danica tableware. Founded in 1775, the factory was a royal possession for a century before passing into private hands in 1868. The factory has turned out a new plate each year since 1908, most of the designs depicting the Danish countryside in winter. Visitors are welcome at the factory where tours are given Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm. Purchases cannot be made at the factory.

AMALIENBORG PALACE

Amalienborg, the royal couple's winter residence, is a major architectural work and probably the most outstanding piece of Rococo architecture in Denmark. Amalienborg comprises four externally uniform (but internally different) palaces encircling an octagonal courtyard, in the middle of which has been erected an equestrian statue of Frederik V – the founder of the Amalienborg Palace complex and the Frederiksstad.

CHRISTIANSBORG CASTLE, Prins Jorgens Gard 1

Christiansborg Castle on Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen houses the Danish Parliament. The Castle was built in stages during 1907-28, and beside being the seat of the Danish Parliament (Folketing) the castle also houses the Royal Reception Rooms with the Great Hall used for banquets held for foreign heads of state and diplomatic audiences.

FREDERIKSBORG CASTLE, Hillerod

Frederiksborg Castle is situated in the centre of Hillerød on three islets in the Castle Lake surrounded by Frederiksborg Castle Gardens. The castle was built in the Dutch Renaissance style at the beginning of the 17th century by Christian IV, then rebuilt about 250 years later by another great Dane, the brewer J.C. Jacobsen, following its destruction by fire. Hillerod is approximately 45 minutes by train from Copenhagen.

RUNDETAARN (ROUND TOWER), Kobmagergade 52A

Built in 1637-1642, the Round Tower was originally an observatory connected to Trinitatis Church, but is now one of Copenhagen's best-known landmarks. King Christian IV's monogram is displayed on the building, as is a beautiful lattice designed by Kasper Fincke. Tower visitors can see a mysterious inscription by Christian IV, a kind of pictorial puzzle, that says 'control, learning and justice, the Lord in the heart of King Christian IV'.
